Picnic Collection 2025

When I started working on this series, I was just wrapping up a very busy few weeks of work with launches and travel, and was itching to make something fun. I started thinking about past work I’ve done that has somehow incorporated food and things that look like other things (e.g. pasta skirts), and how I’ve always had so much fun with that kind of work, and I set out to really run with that idea, and explore it in a new collection.

The word “picnic” always elicits joy for me. There’s something about the idea of packing a basket of food and drinks and taking it to enjoy outside on a blanket somewhere that is just so much fun- taking every day mealtime and transforming it into something special- and that is exactly what I hope I have done with this series of work. An old cookbook, a woven basket, a seashell, a switchplate, a few toothpicks- painted and transformed into artwork that hopefully (!) brings joy and a sense of nostalgia to the viewer.

I read somewhere once that the role of an artist is to notice things. I guess the idea is that the artist notices beauty that might otherwise be missed, and brings attention to it- and if I ever had to come up with a one-line mission statement for what I do, I think that would be a good place to start. I hope that this collection makes you smile.
